If you live in a cold weather climate you have most likely battled a bout of Winter Redness. While it sounds wonderful, rosy red skin all Winter long can be a frustrating skin care challenge.
Skin tends to be drier and more sensitive during cold Winter months. Redness is a sign that your skin barrier is in need of support. Cold temperatures, winter wind, exposure to the elements and even sun exposure can wreak havoc with your skin, causing redness and irritation. Conditions like rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis can actually worsen during the cold winter months.
Taking steps to nourish and protect your skin will support a stronger skin barrier against damaging elements. Below is an Anti-Redness Regimen to help you skate thru Winter with a healthy glow.
Your Anti-Redness Regimen:
Step 1: Remove make-up gently. Double cleansing is wonderful for cleansing, but not if its too harsh. Brown Barn Botanical’s Pre Cleanse Elixir is a gentle oil blend designed to sweep away make-up and debris without drying skin. This blend is made with very gentle, light oils that work well to remove make-up and prepare skin for cleansing for most skin types.
Step 2: Our gentle purifying Willow & Iris Cleanser is perfect for a light cleanse that works without drying. A solar infusion botanic complex including Fir, Burdock Root, Chamomile, Red Clover, and Lilac work to cleanse while soothing and supporting the other active ingredients in this formulation.
Step 3: Exfoliating regularly is key to glowing skin, especially in Winter. The key is to exfoliate gently and to exfoliate consistently 2-3 times per week. Avoid scrubs that rub or may be harsh. Opt instead for our gel type Neroli & Maple AHA/BHA Resurfacing Mask. This mask dissolves away build up to expose fresh new skin. Be sure to spot test any skin mask or liquid exfoliator before using over entire face to ensure they do not irritate any possible skin conditions.
Step 4: Spray on a refreshing mist of Botanic Elixir to add nutrients and hold moisture to your skin. Made with soothing floral waters, Botanic Elixir is made with added natural Hyaluronic Acid to draw and hold moisture to cells. Super light Botanic Elixir can be a real life-saver for those who find moisturizers or face oils too strong for their skin condition or sensitivities.
Step 5: Choose a light infused facial oil. If you are suffering from redness opt for lighter blends such as Brown Barn’s Recovery Facial Oil, designed specifically for sensitive skin needs. Other good options are Three Leaf Morning Whole Leaf Moisturizing Oil or Nourish Moisturizing Aging Skin Oil. These blends are made with lighter oils and gentle essential oils to help soothe and calm and contain no added boosters which may irritate skin conditions. Please note: some skin conditions are sensitive to essential oils, be sure to spot test all products containing essential oils before using over your entire face.
If you really do not care for oils – try a serum! Brown Barn Botanicals Serums are NOT the same as Face Oil. They go on lightly and are “drier”. Our serums are especially cooling and calming. Most popular right now – Lavender Honey Pumpkin Seed Stem Cell Serum, made with added Honey to soothe and calm redness.
Interested in oils and serums? Cocktail them both for an ultimate spa experience!
Step 6: Finish with rich moisturizers. Our super loaded Rose Hip & Shea Bio-complex Creme is loaded with botanical nutrients and added super ingredients meant to soothe and refresh skin. This creme is especially good for those concerned with aging and environmental damage. If you prefer a lighter moisturizer opt for Brown Barn’s Primrose & Oak Daily Defense Moisturizer. All of our moisturizers (and most of our skin care products) are made with rich botanical infused oils featuring flowers and herbs from our own farm that soothe and nourish skin.
Step 7: Finally – do not neglect your eyes. During winter months we love Arctic Bloom Eye Creme. This advanced formulation features Antarcticine, which protects cells from extreme cold and environmental damage. If you are extremely sensitive opt for a lighter eye treatment such as Three Leaf Rejuvenating Eye Treatment Oil or Sea Buckthorn Contouring Eye Serum.
While it can be tempting to simply rinse and go with sensitive skin, with a little patience and trial/error you can find a routine that is perfect for addressing your skin's special needs. As always, feel free to reach out to the Brown Barn team with questions at email@example.com. We are standing by to help!
